If you have a plum tree and you are dreading what you will do with all that fruit. Worry not, EZPZ Cooking to the rescue. Make some Plum jam – you can control the sugar as per your taste and enjoy the goodness of the fruit for a few more months.

Ingredients
Ripe plums | 1 lb |
Sugar | 1 cup |
Water | 1 cup |
Method
- Wash and drain plums. Boil them with 1 cup of water in a sauce pan. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat and cook for 5 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and let it cool.
- Mash the plums through a coarse sieve in a bowl. Only the skin and seeds should be left in the sieve as much as possible. Throw away the seeds and skin.
- Pour the pulp in the sauce pan again. Bring it to a boil. Add a cup of sugar. It will immediately become darker in color. Once it starts boiling again, reduce the heat and cook for about 30-40 minutes.
- Once it starts to thicken, do the consistency test.
- Consistency test: Drop a big drop of mixture in a plate, wait for a minute. Now tilt the plate. If the mixture runs to a side, it’s not thick enough. If it piles on to one side but does not really run through, it’s ready.
- Turn off the heat once you get the right consistency and let it cool in the pan itself.
- Separately sterilize a wide mouth bottle (along with the lid): Boil it in water for about 15 minutes. Remove from water and let it dry. Do not use paper towel to dry it. Let it dry itself. The point is to avoid as much foreign elements in the bottle and the jam as possible.
- Once the jar is completely dry, pour the jam in the bottle. Let it cool completely and store. Plum Jam is ready.
Tips
- I do not add any preservatives to the jam but then I store it in refrigerator. If you want to store it in the pantry then add some preservatives like Sodium Benzoate.
- Adding more sugar also work like a preservative.
- You can easily replace plums with any other tangy fruit you have.
