Meethe Toast is an age old sweet made from simple things commonly found in every kitchen. And that’s the best part about it because you don’t have to collect the ingredients, it’s just simple 3 ingredients. I haven’t met anyone, who does not like this. This recipe is the simplest version but then you can top it with rabri and dry fruits to make it even richer and tastier.

Difficulty: | Easy |
Ingredients
Bread Slices | 2 |
Sugar | 1 cup |
Vegetable Oil | For frying |
Method
- Heat sugar with 3/4 cup of water in a wok.
- Once the sugar dissolves and water starts to boil, turn off the heat.
- Cut off the sides of bread slices. Now cut each slice in 4 pieces. You can cut each slice in simple rectangular pieces or cut it diagonally to make 4 triangles.
- In a separate wok, heat oil to fry the bread pieces. Test the oil by dropping a small piece of bread in the oil. If it browns immediately, the oil is too hot. If the bread does not sizzle, the oil is not hot enough.
- Once the oil is hot, drop a few pieces of bread in oil and fry till they are golden brown from both sides.
- Drain on a paper towel.
- Now dip bread pieces in the sugar syrup one by one and put it a separate plate. Don’t leave Meethe Toast in sugar syrup because then they will become limp. You want them crisp.
- Meethe Toast are ready to eat.
Notes
- Another variation: Instead of dipping fried bread in the sugar syrup, dip it in milk pudding. Reduce the milk in a heavy vessel to almost condensed milk consistency. Add sugar, saffron and chopped dry fruits and mix until sugar is fully dissolved. Dip the fried bread in the milk and serve. This is called Shahi Toast.
